Sheen Shufflers was founded in 1986 by Bob Reed and Georgina Dumler to provide a running club in SW London as an alternative to other local clubs.
The club now has around 70-80 paid up members, some have been members since the club was started, others have joined in the last year. Most are active and participate in training sessions or races. A typical Monday or Wednesday club night has 15-30 runners of different running experiences, speeds and training goals. Except when Richmond Park is closed for the culling, all runs take place within the park, on the roads during the winter and multi-terrain during the summer.
The club has some very talented runners and some of those who have been brought on a long way by club coaching sessions in the last few years. The Shufflers have consistently done well in the Thames Valley cross-country league each winter, placing as winners or runners-up in the past. Each year the club has several members running the London marathon, the "Grizzly" and other events in the UK and beyond with some posting very fast times.
However the club is not all about elite runners, competition and performance. It has members who started their running with us, or picked up again after long periods of absence, or those who simply run for fun and fitness. In a small friendly club there is a chance to know everyone and learn from other members.
As of 2014, Sheen Shufflers introduced a junior athletics section for 7-15 year olds which meet each Sunday during the non-winter months at the track at Barn Elms Sports Trust at 9am. More details can be obtained on the juniors at www.sheenshufflersjuniors.com
The annual membership cost (as at 2013) is £10 p.a. which covers training, insurance, discounts at many sportswear outlets,
ARC affiliation for race entries and eligibility
to run for the club in races.
The Shuffler's main training sessions are on a Monday and a Wednesday night. There is also a Friday morning run, meeting in Richmond Park, for all standards. For more details please see
